The exhibit
In 2000, the Minnesota Historical Society put on a months-long exhibit in the state’s capital of painters with strong Minnesota connections who were Norwegian by heritage. This exhibit was guest-curated by Dr. Marion Nelson of Vesterheim Museum, Decorah IA, who a decade earlier had organized an exhibit (“Three Landsverks”) that had featured many of Margit Mindrum’s paintings. This exhibit in St. Paul featured 44 painters — and 4 of Margit’s works.
The accompanying book
The Minnesota Historical Society produced a picture book of the exhibit (ISBN 0-87732-090-X). The book, which uses the same title, is divided into several sections. Here are three sections of particular interest.
| Section | Description |
|---|---|
| Painting by Minnesotans of Norwegian Background 1870–1970 | The main analysis of the artists and their history, the culture they came out of, the commonalities of their work, and so on. |
| Illustrations | Pictures, in full color, of the painters’ works, with brief commentary. Margit has 4 paintings in the exhibit. |
| Stories of the Artists | A biography of each artist. |
