A river runs through it

A common composition with, you guessed it, a “river”

Margit often produced this very traditional scene of a river flowing toward the viewer through a wooded landscape.

  • ID: 63-31 “stream & woods”
  • Details: 16″ x 20″ / Orig. price: Gift / Initial owner: G. Jacobson

Margit gifted this painting to her sister Gunhild, who later passed it along to her offspring.

  • ID: 66-12 “Fall stream”
  • Details: 16″ x 20″ (gift) Pastor Everson

This painting was gifted to Margit’s pastor. Half a dozen years later (1973) she created three more scenes for this owner, probably on request, that became a set of four season paintings. (The later ones cost him $15 each.)

  • ID: 67-01 “stream & autom colors”
  • Details: 18″ x 24″ / Orig price: gift / Initial owner: O&N Landsverk

Margit gifted this painting to her brother Ole and his wife.

  • ID: 67-02 “stream autom colors”
  • Details: 18″ x 24″ / Orig price: $12.00 / Initial owner: A. Peterson

It’s safe to say this painting (67-02) was produced at the same time as the previous painting (67-01). But here Margit adds the line “He Leads Me Beside Still Waters”. We don’t know if the buyer requested the quote for his painting. Unlike most “The Lord is My Shepherd” paintings, there are no sheep here standing in for “Me”.

  • ID: 69-51 “Fall & stream”
  • Details: 16″ x 20″ / Orig price: $10.00 / Initial owner: M. Jore

In 1969, Margit was charging according to the size of the painting:

$10 for 16″ x 20″ (this size)
$15 for 18″ x 24″
$20 for 22″ x 28″

  • ID: 72-06 “winter evening”
  • Details: 18″ x 24″ / Orig price: $20.00 / Initial owner: R. Highum

Maybe Margit was tired of painting the same fall scene. Here she envisions what the stream could look like on a “winter evening”. It must have recently snowed as snow hangs on the trees much like leaves do in her autumn landscapes.
