Scenes Margit didn’t know as well
<< | Paintings | >>
Margit typically painted scenes from landscapes she was familiar with. But she created some paintings from photographs or by request that took her farther afield than her upper Midwest. Margit did venture out of her familiar upper Midwest and had seen mountains firsthand. Her son Paul had settled in Southern California, and Margit visited him there.
In addition to the scenes below (probably all commissioned to follow a photograph), Margit also included requisite mountains, of course, when a religious-themed painting called for it.

- ID: 62-35 “Colorado scene”
- Detail: 18″ x 24″ / .. / ..

- ID: 68-27 “Scene of Scotland”
- Detail: 18″ x 24″ / Orig price: $10 / 1st owner: R McLean
Both this painting and the next one were recorded as “Scene of Scotland”. They were probably done by request. To our knowledge Margit had no first-hand experience with Scotland.

- ID: 68-28 “Scene of Scotland”
- Detail: 18″ x 24″ / Orig price: $10 / 1st owner: R McLean
See the comment attached to the previous painting.

Note the similarity of this unidentified painting with the previous 68-28. Maybe this is “Like Mcleans” (69-30) 20×27?

- ID: 70-01 “Torry pine by ocean”
- Detail: 28″ x 40″ / Orig price: $40 / 1st owner: C Morken
This larger painting is one of only a couple that Margit recorded for 1970. She spent most of the year recuperating.

- ID: 72-13 “I lift up my eyes –“
- Detail: 22″ x 28″ / Orig price: $30 / 1st owner: J Halvorson
- Comment: We’re looking to identify the inspiration for this picture. The landscape looks like it would be of a specific place, but all we’re safe in saying is it doesn’t look like Margit’s Midwest.
